Formulating Solid Shampoo Bars

Solid shampoo bars are an excellent example of a zero waste product; unlike liquid shampoos, shampoo bars contain little to no water meaning they can take a solid form that does not require any packaging.

In this class, you will use natural surfactants, cationic emulsifiers, butters, oils and more to create nourishing solid shampoo bars for different hair types. We will take inspiration from exciting brands leading the way in solid haircare, such as Ethique and LUSH.

The benefits of solid shampoo bars include:

• Provide effective cleansing of the hair and scalp.
• Longer lasting compared to liquid shampoos.
• Waterless.
• Do not require packaging in a bottle (considered ‘zero waste’).
• Can be taken in carry-on bags when traveling.
• Do not require microbiological testing (PET) as they do not contain water.
• Can also be used as a body wash bar.
