Formulating with Botanical Extracts

Learn to formulate with a wide variety of botanical extracts in this exciting class. It’s the perfect follow-on class from Making Botanical Extracts as you’ll learn how to formulate with the extracts created in that class. Alternatively, you may be able to purchase extracts to use.

Botanical extracts contain a wide range of natural compounds that offer various benefits for the skin such as soothing, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and skin-brightening. For example, some extracts contain antioxidants, which help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals, while others have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help to soothe and calm irritated skin.

In this class, you'll learn to formulate with water-, glycerin-, ethanol- and oil-based extracts. You'll learn the steps to take to choose which extract to use in your formulation and you'll learn the compatibility and suitability of extracts in different formula types.

This class contains formulations for a complete facial skincare range using botanical extracts, including a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer and oil. Extracts used include raspberry, hibiscus, licorice, green tea, blueberry, goji berry, cucumber, chamomile, calendula and carrot.

You'll receive five professionally created product formulas for:

  • Raspberry and Lime Facial Cleanser – a surfactant-based foaming cleanser that gently removes impurities from the skin and uses a variety of glycerine based extracts to hydrate the skin and for gently exfoliating and anti-aging properties.
  • Brightening Licorice Toner – a water-based liquid toner to refresh and hydrate the skin. The botanical extracts used offer photoprotective, antioxidant and skin-brightening benefits.
  • Superfruit Revitalizing Serum – an aqueous gel serum that hydrates the skin and features two different botanical extracts to revitalize the skin and enhance the skin's firmness and elasticity.
  • Soothing and Hydrating Facial Moisturizer – an emulsion that relieves dry skin on the face by moisturizing, hydrating and soothing. The botanical extracts used provide anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, soothing and hydrating properties.
  • Rejuvenating Facial Oil – an oil-based facial oil that contains carotenoids: powerful antioxidants that also function as Vitamin A precursors.

This class includes a beautiful textbook to download and a demonstration video showing you how to make the Raspberry and Lime Facial Cleanser, which you can follow along with step by step.
