MODULE 1: MINERAL MAKEUP THEORY

Discover the exciting world of mineral makeup, including foundations, eye shadows and blushers, with our Formulating Mineral Makeup course! The course focuses on two forms of mineral makeup: loose powders and pressed powders.

Mineral makeup products are a really exciting addition to your formulating skillset. Use the knowledge and skills you gain to create products for yourself, friends and family, or to add a range of makeup products to your brand.

Here are some of the reasons to learn to formulate mineral makeup:

    • Easy to make – Mineral makeup can be made by complete beginners, there are no complex manufacturing methods or issues with stability and preservation.
    • Fun and creative – Have fun mixing base powders, pigments and micas to create your perfect makeup shade.
    • Save a huge amount of money – Mineral makeup can be expensive to buy; it is far more cost effective to create it yourself.
    • Create pure, concentrated products that last a long time.
    • Preservative-free – Mineral makeup does not require any preservatives.
    • Suitable for sensitive skin – As they can contain pure powders, without additives, mineral makeup products are suitable for sensitive skin.
    • Suitable for natural certification – Formulate to natural standards.
    • Establish a mineral makeup range! Take all five modules of Formulating Mineral Makeup and you’ll have the knowledge to create your own range of mineral makeup to sell.

In Module 1 you’ll learn all of the essential theory needed to make beautiful mineral makeup products. After completing this module you can take our other modules on mineral foundation, mineral eye shadow, and blushers, bronzers and highlighters. The modules focus on loose mineral makeup products – and if you wish, in Module 5 you can learn how to turn these into pressed powders!

Module 1: Mineral Makeup Theory is a prerequisite for our other mineral makeup modules.

Module 1: Mineral Makeup Theory teaches you the essentials for formulating mineral makeup.

Formulating mineral makeup is different to formulating other types of cosmetics. We’ll teach you how to measure very small quantities of ingredients, how to write makeup recipes/formulas, the equipment and packaging you’ll need, how to mix your ingredients properly (to avoid a streaky appearance on application) and where to buy your supplies.

Delve into the world of color! Discover primary, secondary and tertiary colors, color harmony, hues, tints, tones, shades and undertones.

Find out about the essential ingredients that you’ll need to make your mineral makeup, and learn how to create a variety of base powders that are important for coverage, adhesion and slip (enabling the products to be easily and smoothly applied). Then, of course, colors are required! Learn about mineral pigments and micas, and how to check the INCI list to see which ones are accepted by organic certifications.
