MODULE 3: FACE AND BODY WASH FORMULAS

By the end of this module you’ll be able to formulate a range of face washes, body washes and shower gels for different skin types.

We provide seven formulas for you to practice with and our demonstration video will show you step by step how to make your product.

You’ll learn how to combine different surfactants, add other complementary ingredients such as humectants and extracts, and calculate the active matter to formulate products suited for dry skin and oily skin.

We provide formulation examples for body wash, face wash for oily skin and face wash for dry skin. We provide two to three variations of each formula to show you how to substitute different surfactants.

After completing this module you’ll be able to create a range of face and body washes for yourself, friends and family, or to add to your skincare range!

You must have completed Module 1: The Science of Surfactants and Module 2: Formulating Surfactant-based Face and Body Washes before enrolling on Module 3: Face and Body Wash Formulas.

If you are a student of our Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation you don’t need to purchase this module as it is included with your course. Please contact our customer service team who can arrange for you to move straight to Module 4.

Module 3 includes four lessons:

3.1 Introduction to face and body wash formulas

In this lesson we explain the surfactants that we use in our example formulas.

You’ll also receive a very useful product development and formulation worksheet for face and body washes. The worksheet gives you helpful guidance about the ingredients to include in this formula type and the suggested percentages. You’ll find it an invaluable aid to creating your own formulations.

3.2 Example formulations: Lemon and Papaya Body Wash

In this lesson, we share three variations of a formula for a Lemon and Papaya Body Wash. The formulations are very similar but feature three different combinations of surfactants, so you can see how to substitute surfactants in a formula. For each formulation we’ll share product development questions, the formula, instructions for making the product and product specifications.

We also provide a video demonstration so you can see how to make this product yourself.

3.3 Example formulations: Pomegranate and Geranium Face Wash for Oily Skin

In this lesson, we share two variations of a formula for a Pomegranate and Geranium Face Wash for Oily Skin. The formulations are very similar but feature two different combinations of surfactants, so you can see how to substitute surfactants in a formula. For each formulation we’ll share product development questions, the formula, instructions for making the product and product specifications.

3.4 Example formulations: Pomegranate and Geranium Face Wash for Dry Skin

In this lesson, we will share two variations of a formula for a Pomegranate and Geranium Face Wash for Dry Skin. The formulations are very similar but feature three different combinations of surfactants, so you can see how to substitute surfactants in a formula. For each formulation we’ll share product development questions, the formula, instructions for making the product and product specifications.

By comparing the formulations for dry skin and oily skin you’ll learn how to adapt the formula for different skin types through some simple adjustments.
