MODULE 5: BUBBLE BATH AND HAND WASH FORMULAS

By the end of this module you’ll be able to formulate a range of gentle, hand washes and luxurious, bubbly bubble baths!

We provide eight formulation examples, including three hand wash formulas and five bubble bath formulas, and our demonstration video will show you step by step how to make your product.

You’ll learn how to combine different surfactants, add other complementary ingredients such as humectants, skin conditioning agents and extracts, and calculate the active matter to vary the properties of your formula.

After completing this module you’ll be able to create a range of hand washes and bubble baths for yourself, friends and family, or to add to your skincare range!

You must have completed Module 1: The Science of Surfactants and Module 2: Formulating Surfactant-based Face and Body Washes before enrolling on Module 5: Hand Wash and Bubble Bath Formulas.

5.1 Introduction to hand wash and bubble bath formulas

In this lesson we explain the surfactants that we use in our example formulas.

You’ll also receive a very useful product development and formulation worksheet for hand wash and bubble bath formulas. The worksheet gives you helpful guidance about the ingredients to include in this formula type and the suggested percentages. You’ll find it an invaluable aid to creating your own formulations.

5.2 Example formulations: Orange and Neroli Hand Wash

In this lesson, we share two variations of a formula for an Orange and Neroli Hand Wash. The formulations are very similar but feature two different combinations of surfactants, so you can see how to substitute surfactants in a formula. For each formulation we’ll share product development questions, the formula, instructions for making the product and product specifications.

5.3 Example formulation: Manuka and Lemon Tea Tree Hand Wash

In this lesson we explore a formulation example for a Manuka and Lemon Tea Tree Hand Wash, using a product currently on the market as our benchmark.

5.4 Formulation examples: Honey and Lemon Bubble Bath

Our Honey and Lemon Bubble Bath creates a luxurious bubble bath with high foaming capabilities to gently cleanse the skin. We share two variations of the formula, so you can see how to use different surfactants for a similar end result.

Our video demonstration shows you step by step how to make this product for yourself.

5.5 Formulation examples: Lavender Bubble Bath

In this lesson, we share three variations of a formula for a Lavender Bubble Bath.
